482 jobless youth receive skills training in Kumasi

Old Tafo (Ash), Jan. 7, GNA - Four hundred and eighty-two (482) young women, have received employable skills training through the initiative of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Old-Tafo, Dr Anthony Akoto-Osei. They were trained in dressmaking, catering and batik tie and dye at the Wealth Creation and Social Development Training Centre (WCSDTC) in Kumasi on Friday.

The Centre was set up by Dr Akoto-Osei, former Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, as part of his contribution to the national drive to tackle the growing unemployment among the country's youth.

Nana Afua Konadu-Yiadom, chairperson of the board of governors addressing the graduation ceremony for 90 of the trainees, said the management had decided to extend the duration of the training programme fro= m one to two years. Additionally, the trainees would also be taught mathematics and the English Language to help them to become more versatile. Nana Konadu-Yiadom appealed to individuals, churches and corporate bodies to support the Centre to improve the lot of the Ghanaian youth, particularly those in the constituency. Dr Akoto-Osei urged parents to put the education of their children on top of their priority list, reminding them that, it was by so doing that they could be assured of better and secure future.
