NPP’s first Vice Chairman of Asokwa constituency, Edmund Kyei has hinted that a whopping three thousand Ghanaians are likely to be sacked from the Tema port.

According to him, an alleged contract signed by the then Mahama-led government with Meridian Port Service will cost the country if not terminated by the incumbent.

“In 2015, Ghana Government led by Elder Ofosu-Ampofo now NDC National Chairman and the then Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Habors Authority board signed an agreement with the Meridian Port Service (MPS) which was established in 2002,” he said.

“The ultimate purpose of the deal was to expand the port to a higher status, but investigations into this said contract bring to light very disturbing terms which will definitely bring Ghana to its knees,” Edmund Kyei alleged during a political discourse in Amsterdam, April 14, 2019.

He also made it clear how “MPs will monopolize the port activities in few years to come if this contract is not reviewed.”

“The commencement of this project would automatically result in over three thousand (3,000) innocent Ghanaians losing their jobs at the Tema port and over 2 billion dollars loss in revenue to our beloved country over the 35 years period this project will span, aside the huge additional tax waiver approved under this contract hence making this agreement reckless and insensitive,” he said.

He reiterates the unbearable economic and social consequences this agreement would bring to Ghanaians.

According to him, the contract is expected to kick start this year, June 2019 and span over the next 35 years.

The NPP man however called on President Akufo- Addo to review the “shoddy contract and relief the good people from the shackles of bad governance and mismanagement before the project commence.”

According to him, “Former President Mahama and the NDC have over the years shown by their actions how poor they managed our country's resources and economy. Never Again Ex President Mahama, you are not an option for Ghanaians.”
