The Birim Central Municipal Officer of the Business Advisory Centre (BAC) has observed that the greatest challenges facing small-scale businesses is their inability to implement policies of their own that will promote growth.

Mr Richard Mongson, made the observation in a speech on: “Planning process towards preparation of BAC Annual Work Plans and Budget for 2016“, at a day’s workshop for 30 participants at Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.

The workshop, which was organized by BAC, in collaboration with the Birim Central Municipal Assembly for the various business operators, was, aimed at identifying problems of small-scale businesses and the necessary interventions for job enhancement.

Mr. Mongson advised the participants to be proactive to ensure proper use of their resources, and charged businessmen in the area to endeavor to initiate policies that would accelerate the development of their businesses and the municipality.

“As people with business acumen, you should make sure every cedi from the business is used to reinvest in the business and also for the betterment of your families” he said, adding that, they should also acquire the habit of savings, to ensure effective mobilization of their resources.

Earlier in an opening ceremony, Mr. Owusu Frimpong Boadu, Municipal Co-ordinating Director, stressed that, the main objective of forming and operating any business is to make profit, to help the business to exist and grow.

Mr. Frimpong Boadu reminded them that a “benchmarking” is a tool for achieving the need to continuously change production processes, by introducing new and better ways of doing things for high quality products at minimum cost.

He pointed out that the workshop was a platform to highlight not only the adversity, resilient and innovation of Ghanaian businesses, but also provide those in academia the opportunity to engage with industry.

The participants appealed to the organizers of the programme to endeavor to organize periodic orientation courses for them.
