2018 Codetrain conference held at KNUST

The Codetrain App Developer Conference was held in Kumasi on 19th October, 2018. It was held at the Allotey Auditorium, College of Sciences, KNUST. The event was organised by Codetrain, Ghana’s practical app training programme, in collaboration with the Association of Computer Engineering Students (ACES), KNUST.

There is a shortage of professional software developers in Ghana and the global software space as a whole because of the fast digitisation of our economy driven by the proliferation of smartphones, fast internet and the rise of e-commerce.

The Codetrain App Developer Conference was a call to all who are interested in learning about how they can acquire the necessary skills to become professional software developers so that they can get readily available job opportunities.

The conference also educated attendees on how they can get support from local and international funding organizations, incubators and accelerators to start their own successful software companies after learning skills in app development.

Codetrain also launched its app training programme at the event to offer an opportunity to people in Kumasi to transform them into professional app developers so that they can also get access to the job and entrepreneurial opportunities Codetrain offers to its students in Accra.

Richard Brandt, the CEO of Codeotrain said “I believe Africa is the future of technology talent .. and with the right technical education and mentorship, we can make Ghana a global powerhouse for software talent recruitment”.

Shadrach Boadu, a senior developer and consultant at Andela, was there to support the event by inspiring the students with his story of how he became a successful software developer to work for local and international software companies.


Codetrain is a practical web and mobile app training programme which transforms Ghana’s youth into professional software developers and then connects them to job opportunities in local and international companies.

Codetrain’s approach to training is a holistic model where students get trained in industry based simulated projects to get practical experience as well training in the soft skills required to be successful in today’s modern workplace.

Over the last year, Codetrain has held training boot camps for thousands of students educational institutions in Ghana including KNUST, Lancaster University, Ashesi University, and Achimota School. Codetrain has also trained over 250 professional software developers and has placed them in top software companies such as Meqasa, Ghana’s leading online real estate listing site and Talamus, an award-winning Ghanaian health app.
