Di United Nations don confam say about 90% of pipo wey di 7 October Afghanistan earthquake kill na women and pikin dem.

Di earthquake happun for di Herat province for di western part of di kontri and UN say e kill almost 1,300 pipo.

Di BBC follow doctors, witnesses and activists tok and dem blame di sweeping restrictions wey di Taliban put down for di amount of women wey die.

Salma*, wey be female doctor for Herat, bin enta di worst affected parts to give first aid to injured women and see reasons for di unequal death toll.

She say, "I visit one village wia Taliban members bin dey live. Some men no gree touch women wey injure or die."

Discrimination

Zenda Jan district, wey dey di west side of Herat na di area wey suffer for di first and worst quake pass.

Locals tell BBC say not one building bin survive for di 20 remote mountain villages.

Di most pipo for di buildings wen di earthquake happun na women and pikin dem.

Women dey mostly dey for house during di day for rural Afghanistan but afta di Taliban seize power for 2021, dem ban women from most jobs and from studying beyond primary school.

Dis make most women dey house dey do domestic work.

Salma tell BBC say, "Men bin dey outside for field or dey watch dia animals or travel go Iran to work. Di women bin dey for house do housework and look afta pikin. Na so dem find diaself for inside di collapse."

Mariam*, wey be 23-year-old activist, say she bin also see di Taliban dey warn first responders make dem no touch women wey bin dey affected for di quake.

She say, "local men bin no get any issue wit saving women but na some armed Taliban members wey no allow di men to near dem. Dem also no let di women to go dose area for di first two to three days so di genders no go mix."

Aid worker Abdul* tell BBC say di militants no even allow men handle women bodi even afta dem don die.

Eyewitness tell BBC say dem bin bury most of di dead women on di same day without di cleansing bath wey dem dey normally do for Muslim burials becos families bin no fit find women wey go do am.

Relief restricted

Activists also say di Taliban restrictions bin block medical efforts to help pipo wey wound.

Under di militant rule, women no fit trave except male relative follow dem waka.

Fariba*, wey be 21 year oldvolunteer bin dey work for di emergency department for di 500 bed Herat hospital. She bin wan rush go back work afta she hear tori of di earthquake.

She wear long coat and headscarf to go hospital but taxi no gree carry am sake of say she bin no dey wear full burka and man no follow am.

She add say, "taxi drivers say di department of virtue and vice go seize dia motor and give dem fine of 10,000 Afghanis ($130, £107) if dem carriy me. I carry leg waka for one hour to reach di hospital."

Fariba say weeks before di earthquake, di Taliban don start to dey punish taxi drivers wey carry only female passengers or women wey no wear burqa.

Di BBC hear say some Taliban officials don go di main hospitals and dey ginger female workers make dem come work. Plenti women don wound and di doctors no fit cope but e no clear how dem go come.

Eyewitnesses for hospitals say di quake cause plenti injured women and doctors no reach to attend to dem and Fariba dey blame di militants for dis one.

She say, "di Taliban don ban male doctors from treating female patients. Dis one come put plenti pressure on di small group of female doctors and nurses."

Dr Salma say di Taliban bin block am from helping one of di casualty.

Dr Salma say, "I bin see one woman wey her head swell three times di normal size, she bin dey wit her 10-year-old pikin. Doctors say make she go do scan to see wetin do am. But she and her pikin no know how to go becos of all di palava for di hospital. I beg di Taliban make dem allow me go help am but dem no gree."

Taliban ansa

Di BBC ask di Taliban for comment and tok tok pesin bin deny tok say im group na im cause excess deaths. E say di accusations get more to di wit di cultural norms for Afghanistan dan di rules im group bring come.

Di tok-tok pesin, Zabiullah Mujahid say, "di earthquake happun around 11am, men bin dey for work, women bin dey for house. Any pesin wey sabi di Afghan society wella sabi say dat 80 to 90% of women no dey go work and dey stay house."

Mujahid claim say di Taliban aid teams go di area within hours and some bin enta from helicopter but gree say di aid no reach evri bodi wey need am.

E say, "na obviously very big kasala wey affect plenti plenti pipo. Afghanistan economy no dey good enough to take care of evri bodi needs at once but di Islamic Emirates dey do di best".

But wen BBC ask weda dem send any female aid workers go di region, e no ansa.

Dr Salma say aid agencies manage give food and blankets but dem gatz do more.

Plenti of di women wey injure for di Afghanistan earthquakes still dey see shege to get medical help even two weeks afta.

Dr Salma tok say "many pregnant women lose dia pikin and some give birth for public and bin dey bleed wella. Young girls bin dey in shock and no get clean underwear or sanitary pads. Dem need medical attention bad-bad."
