Prisons win battle of Reformers in Accra Division II

Reformers of Prisons have beaten Junior Reformers 76-64 in the Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division II played at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu earlier tonight in an exciting game between the two Reformers sides in the division.

By clinching the win, Prisons have extended its lead over second placed Ghana Police in the standings to three points. The team has an 18 point tally from nine of ten games this season.

On the other other hand, Junior Reformers have lost six times in nine outings but put up a very good fight challenging the veteran Prisons side from start to finish.

The first quarter ended 21-13 for Prisons and Forward Philip Barley scored a layup to open scoring proceedings in the second quarter.

Mawusi Kalla scored layup to get Junior Reformers up 23-19 as the side came back strong in the second department of the game but Barley completed a three point play and Andrews Ayienab sliced through defense to score layup for Prisons.

Junior Reformers ended the first half on top despite Mohammed Yakubu scoring four points in final minutes of quarter; Prisons trailed 32-35 heading to third quarter.

Again Barley was the first to score in the quarter with a layup after gathering an offensive rebound. Isaac Ollenu scored layup and Jeffrey Abakisi blocked shot took control of the game once again. However, Prisons took a 40-37 lead after Barley and Ayienab scored.

Ollenu then crossed over defender and drained a three point shot with Jamani Salifu delivering a beautiful pass for Emmanuel Odamtten to gather and give Junior Reformers a 43-42 lead.

Barley and Ayienab combined again to get Prisons up 47-46 with 3:02 remaining in quarter. Monsiru Brown produced the play of the game by blocking Barley’s shot and scooping the ball for Kalla to score and get Junior Reformers back in the lead (49-48) with 1:24 remaining.

The third quarter ended with the score tied at 51 after Abakisi failed to complete three point play and a deep three point shot from Prisons Daniel Annane.

Ayienab dropped a nice bounce pass inside for Annane to score a layup before Barley scored five straight points to give team a 63-55 lead right after Abakisi converted a jump shot.

Prisons Point Guard Ayienab scored six straight points with John Ansah pitching in with two free throws to give team 70-59 lead.

Kalla spun on opponent and scored layup with Ollenu converting free throws for Junior Reformers to trail 64-74 before Prisons Yahaya Konka scored final point in game for Prisons to win.
