TAGIS & TAMASCO are Basketball champions

Tamale, July 2, GNA - The Tamale Girls' International School (TAGIS) and the Tamale Secondary School (TAMASO) last Saturday emerged champions in the Northern Region Girls' and boys Basketball tournament organized by the Regional Basket Ball Association.

TAGIS beat Business Secondary School, BISCO in the finals of the girls' championship while TAMASCO also beat Ghana Secondary School in the Boys' division (GHANASCO) to lift the trophy.

Both schools took away a trophy, one leather ball and one-rubber ball each. The St. Charles Secondary School was adjudged the Best-Behaved school at the close of the tournament.

Mr Daizo Maeda, Japanese International Corporation Agency (JICA) Volunteer coach attached to the Northern Regional Sports Council sponsored the games.

Mr Alex Ali, Northern Regional Physical Education organizer who presented the trophies to the victors appealed to parents to release their girl children for sporting activities to be groomed for the national teams.

He commended TAGIS, for emerging winners and called on the schools to train hard for honours in the future.

Mr Maeda pledged to support to Basketball in the region and advised heads of secondary schools to involve their students in basketball so that the game receives attention throughout the region.
