Mfantsipim School wins Sprite Ball Championship

Accra, Jan. 8, GNA - Mfantsipim Senior High School has for the third time won the Sprite Basketball Championship after defeating Koforidua Secondary Technical School (K.S.T.S), 46-36 in front of a packed crowd at the Aviation Social Centre, Accra.

The Coca Cola Ghana Limited sponsored event, which is in the seventh edition, with its brand Sprite and supported by Indomie Noodles saw over 24 senior high schools from six regions competing for the ultimate prize.

In a highly charged atmosphere amidst drumming and dancing, Mfantsipim School in a smooth attacking game, with a lot of flair, took an early lead in the first quarter before their opponents clawed back into the game to draw level in the second quarter. Mfantsipim regained their lead in the third quarter and remained on top in the fourth quarter to give strong indications of their determination to carry the day and ensured they remained champions for the third time.

Ghana Secondary Technical School (G.S.T.S) placed third, after Keta Secondary walked-off in the third place game in protest.

In the Girls Division, Aggrey Memorial Zion Senior High School lifted the trophy, when they beat St Mary’s Senior High School 19-12, whilst Yaa Asantewaa Senior high school placed third by beating Wesley Girls High School 16-11.

David Akuffo of Mfantsipim Senior High School and Matilda Gordon of Aggrey Memorial Senior High were voted the MVP in the boys and girls category respectively for their individual brilliance in the two-day event.

They both received a brand new laptop courtesy title sponsor Coca Cola Ghana Limited and certificate.

The 2013 Sprite Ball Championship was organized by Rite Multimedia, an event management company in Ghana.
