Aburi Girls Explosion Night

It was a night of non-stop entertainment and inspiration when a host of gospel singers converged on the Ebenezer Church Hall, Osu, to celebrate the 6oth Anniversary of the Aburi Girls? Secondary School last Sunday.

The artistes on the bill were Judy Lomotey, Mercy Sackey, The Commisioned Family, Tema Youth Choir and Nii Okai. Jude Lomotey displayed a lot eloquence in her performance.

She thrilled the audience who were on their feet throughtout her performance with songs from her repertoire like ?Mokomoko Be?, ?Enyonam? and ?W?agye Me Aboso?.

Nii Okai for his part managed to put everyone in a worshipful mood as is characteristic of him whenever he gets on stage. Singing songs from his old and new albums like the popular, ?Moko Be?, he created a prayerful atmosphere and the emotions he invoked in the audience were so intense that some openly shed tears.

It was then the turn of Mercy Sackey and The Commisioned Family who put up impressive performances and were very creative in their stage craft that one could see and feel they were inspired by God.

Even though entertainment was the prinicpal objective, the message of God was sent across as well. The Tema Youth Choir were really great. With their youthful voices they sang songs which were familiar to the audiences like ?M?atwen Awurade Anim? and ?Ayeyi Ahye M?akoma Ma? and these got everybody singing and dancing along with them.

The Aburi Girls? Choir sent the old girs back to their days in school. They also sang their school anthem beautifully.
The programme was part of a week-long celebration of the school?s 60th anniversary. According to Mrs. Caroline Antwi, the celebration was organised by the 1980 year group of the school under the theme: ?Preparing the Girl Child to Face the Challenges of the 21st Century?.

The aim of the celebration was to raise funds for the development of the school?s sick bay and to finance other projects of the school.
