Is Gospel Music Really Going Too Far?

?For those of you who think gospel music has gone too far?? is the opening phrase of Kirk Franklin?s hit song ?Stump?. He must have had a reference point for making that statement, a reference point that has been reiterated over and over again.

I am always asked questions about this topic and my answer remains the same. No, gospel music hasn?t gone too far, indeed it will even have to go farther than it has now to achieve one of its most important aim ? to minister to a lost soul.

So why do some think it has gone too far? I think it is mainly because of the way gospel music has evolved over the years. Like everything else it hasn?t been stagnant. But what I ask is that why should it not evolve ? Even the scenarios painted in the bible are interpreted to suit this modern generation. Can you imagine what it would have been like if we interpreted the bible according to Jewish custom as it was originally written.

We have to remember that everyone is unique. Not every one can be reached with a particular type of Christian music such as a hymn. Does this mean therefore that we refuse to attend to the needs of a greater generation whose way of life has evolved from the use of hands doing laundry to washing machines?

God sent his son in the form of a man called Jesus. This Jesus ate and mingled with sinners in order to be like them, to reach them.
Let us remember that even God sees the need for change
But even as we change, to reach the hearts of a new generation we must be careful in all that we do especially our music not to lose sight of the one for whom we live-God.

So for our ever-changing generation we will pray that people will be drawn by God ordained music of their choice, in the quest for a deeper relationship with the Father.

Everyone is unique. Everyone has his or her unique tastes. Let's let gospel music reach everyone.
