World Bank Raise Red Flag Over Atumpan's GMA Nomination

It has come to the attention of Ghana Music.com that the World Bank has serious difficulties with this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards because of the inclusion of Atumpan's “The Thing” aka 'Small Girl' song.

Ghana Music.com placed a quick call to World Bank Ghana to ascertain the truth of the rumour. Kofi Tsikata, a representative of World Bank was quick to respond that they are not in the position to determine which songs make it to the final nomination list of this year's Vodafone Ghana Music Awards but as a leading global organization supporting the fight against child abuse over some years now, they have difficulty with the inclusion of the song entitled 'The Thing' aka 'Small Girl', by Atumpan. “Our position is in line with similar opinions expressed by many well-meaning Ghanaians, musicians, media and civil society organizations on this matter, to the effect that this song promotes child abuse, and should not have been given a place on a platform as serious as the Ghana Music Awards”, he continued.

The World Bank has been sponsoring the "Best Music For Development" category and Pre Awards Industry Forums for the past three years and will be doing the same this year.

“Music, as you know, can be used to positively and constructively affect society, and contribute to social, cultural, economic and political development. We wish, therefore, to recommend to our hardworking and talented artistes to endeavor to make their works a blessing to society”, Kofi Tsikata ended his interview.

The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is truly getting shaky this year whether it likes it or not, with lovers of Ghanaian music calling for the disqualification of songs like Yenkoaa by Eduwoji, The Thing by Atumpan after the VGMA board disqualified R2Bees’, 'Aijee'.
