VIP Takes Channel O Best Group Award

VIP The second Channel O African Music Video Awards stormed the stage at the Nelson Mandela Theatre at the Johannesburg Civic Theatre on March 31 recognizing the hottest African musical talent.

Ghana?s VIP beat all others in their category to win the Best Group Award with ?Ahomka?.

SMS's and online votes poured in from enthusiastic Channel O viewers across the continent, totaling an incredible 75 000 + votes across the 21 categories.

South African artist Kabelo and Nigerian star 2Face Idibia were the big winners on the night. 2Face Idibia won for Best Male Video and Best African - West, while Kabelo walked away with Best Kwaito Video and Video of the Year for "Love Me or Leave Me Alone".

Other notable winners included Thandiswa Mazwai ("Lahl' Umlenze") - Best Female Video, , Nigeria?s Asu Ekiye (?Yemi Yemo?) - Best Gospel and Nigeria?s Styl-Plus (?Call My Name?) - Best R&B Video.

African jazz legend Hugh Masekela was recognized for his contribution to music in developing a drug rehabilitation program to help troubled artists.
