Unique Cultural Concert With Soulf?ge

Wayland METCO is sponsoring a cultural concert on Saturday, Oct. 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wayland Middle School Auditorium (201 Main Street/Route 27).

Soulf?ge will introduce a new production titled "Sweet Mother Afrika: A Musical Movement to the Motherland." This effort comes from a two-year transatlantic collaboration between artists in Boston and Accra, Ghana, that fuses the sounds of Africa and the Diaspora into a unique and supremely funky vision of a unified and empowered future.

Tickets are $14 per adult; $5 per student. Contact 508-358-3755 or "rena_santillo@wayland.k12.ma.us" for tickets.

Soulf?ge is an exciting group started by four Harvard graduates who shared a passion for music and singing and wanted to find a way to share their culture and their experience. This latest journey resulted in two videos representing different images of "Sweet Mother," the most popular song in the history of African music.

The first takes this African classic and follows it on a retro-themed jaunt through the streets of Philadelphia, while the second jumps off in the heart of Accra, one of West Africa's most historic cities, and articulates a challenge to the children of the Diaspora to fight for Sweet Mother Afrika.

Together with the sights and sounds of these videos, the band will take the audience behind the scenes in a film trailer that shows the collaboration between artists from the U.S. and Ghana, and into the studio with some of Ghana's top MCs, DJs and TV personalities, to present a rare insight into the life, culture and voice of African youth.

And of course, Soulf?ge will bring its exciting and uniquely "funkadocious" live performance to the stage, giving audiences a taste of the future of African-Diaspora music.
