Dangme East and West districts declared water disaster areas.

The National Disaster Management Organisation says it is sending water tankers on a daily basis to the Dangme East and West districts of the Greater Accra region where there is an acute water shortage. According to the organisation's director of operations, Mr. Akwasi Owusu-Akyaw, the service will run until the situation returns to normal. Delayed rainfall in the Accra plains and other areas has dried up wells, dams and streams which are the people's main source of water. In the Sege area, near Ada, people are reported to be drinking muddy water, which sells at 500 cedis a bucket. As a result, a government outreach team has toured the two districts and identified the problems facing the people. The two districts have been declared as water disaster areas, in need of immediate relief services. Mr. E. T. Mensah, Minister for Youth and Sports who is also the Member of Parliament for the area who led a nine-member team to the area, said about one billion cedis will be required to solve the water problem in the district.
