20 heads of state for summit in Ghana?

Ghana will host the fifth African-African American summit in May, this year, which will bring together more than 6,000 dignitaries including 20 heads of African and Caribbean nations. The summit is expected to address issues on economic development, education, agriculture, women, health, population and democracy.

Launching the sponsorship programme in Accra yesterday, Mr Sam Jonah, Chief Executive of Ashanti Goldfields said the summit is the "basis for transforming our putative brotherhood into a mutually supportive neighbourhood in which we will be each other's keeper." He said the summit will provide "an unimaginable array of opportunities for people who seek to make a date with destiny" adding that the nation's castles and other relics of the slave trade makes it an ideal place for Africans in the Diaspora to explore their past. Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Minister of Education said the event provides the opportunity for continental and diasporain Africans to exchange ideas through education and culture. He said the hosting of the summit by Ghana adds weight to her support and commitment to the liberation of the black man. An appeal for funds yielded 45,000 dollars. A total amount of 502,000 dollars is required to organise the summit.
