Rockstone And Mensa Sing 'Ayekoo' For The Black Stars

The partnership between the originator of Hiplife, Reggie Rockstone and his friend, Yaw Mensa, a London-based Ghanaian musician in the making of songs always spells out special messages. True to this, their recent collaboration is no different as it carries a congratulatory message to the Black Stars for their sterling performance at this year's World Cup in Germany.

Reggie Rockstone who upon the Black Stars exploits became a football fan, was awed by the passion with which the nation rallied behind them and the sense of nationalism it has forged among the people of this country. Owing to this, he decided it was best he shows his part of the national gratitude to the Stars by way of a song titled, 'Ayekoo'.

'Ayekoo' is sung in Twi, Pidgin and English and has a Jazzy hiphop beat to match. Reggie Rockstone raps in Twi, Mensa in English and the duo sing the chorus in Pidgin.

P&P also gathered that the song with its video was put together within a space of 24 hours. In the song, they congratulate the Black Stars for making Ghana and Africa proud, evoking the sense of nationalism among Ghanaians and selling Ghana to the world.

The video is currently being shown on TV while the limited number of CD's is yet to reach all FM stations. Radio Gold's B. B. Menson, aka The Virus, is the director of the video and even though the song is not for sale, it is under Kassa Records label and produced by Mensa.

It would be recalled that in 2000 when the duo, Rockstone and Mensa collaborated to a song 'Mensesa', it became a toast for fans and Pan-Africanists because of its conscious lyrics and message. Later, Mensa co-produced Reggie's last hiplife album, 'The Last Show' and solely produced the Kora Award-winning, 'Ah'.

Reggie Rockstone, P&P learnt, is presently putting together his first solo hiphop album after his earlier stint with the group, PLZ of the UK. Mensa on the other hand has released his 'Daily Bases' album and is preparing to tour Europe soon. P&P congratulates the Black Stars and hopes 'Ayekoo' is also well received by them.
