Promote Choral Music - CYC Boss Cries

The Vice Chairman of the Accra West Deanery Youth Council of the Catholic Church, Edward Ayem, has said there is the need for Christians to promote choral music and the use of hymns.

According to him, the use of choral music in the society has now become a culture of the past, as most Christians were now into playing and listening to foreign music.

Edward Ayem expressed this during this year?s celebration of the Allelu Festo Christo singing competition, hosted by the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Kwashieman.

The competition, which means ?Alleluia Festival of Christ? is celebrated annually, after Easter and before Pentecost day.

Dubbed ?Love one another as I have loved you,? it was patronised by ten choirs in the Accra West Deanery.

Choirs in attendance for the competition included the St Francis of Assisi Catholic church, Awoshie, St Charles Lwanga Abeka, St Dominic, Mallam, Holy Family, Mataheko, Martyrs of Uganda, Mamprobi, Prince of Peace, Kwashieman, Margaret Mary and Star of the Sea Dansoman, Secret Heart Derby Avenue and St Joseph Niiboiman.

Choirs were supposed to sing a compulsory song called ?Nyame ye ohen? and an optional one.

All the choirs performed so splendidly that it was difficult for the judge from the Winneba Music College to determine the winner.

Nevertheless, the Holy Family Catholic Church of Mataheko, emerged the winner, taking home a silver cup while Martyrs of Uganda who came second received a shield.

Reverend Fr Mintah, Parish Priest of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Kwashieman, in an address, advised choristers to be devoted to the work entrusted to them to do it well and whole - heartedly.

According to him, a chorister must be able to sing and sing well, vigorously songs which would be pleasant to the ear, not only make noise.

?A song must be crafted in a way that whoever listened to it is moved spiritually or compelled to dance and pray,? he noted.
