Okyeame Kwame ask for media support for World Hepatitis Day

28th July is World Hepatitis Day. As a result, Okyeame Kwame and team are preparing feverishly for this day.

There will be a week-long celebration to mark the World Hepatitis Day to create awareness for hepatitis which is a stealthy killer.

Okyeame Kwame is appealing to the media houses; radio stations, TV stations, bloggers, newspapers - that it is the responsibility of us all to do the little we can to make sure that we sensitize and educate the public about the dangers of this disease.

In the course of the week, the media should have discussions on hepatitis B to augment sensitization.

According to WHO, the prevalence rate for hepatitis B is 15%. This means that 1 out of every 6 Ghanaian is exposed to the virus.

Hepatitis B is a viral disease which inflames the liver. Some of the main causes are exchange of body fluids; blood transfusion and especially sex.

Every year Okyeame Kwame, MDS-Lancet Laboratories and MTN Ghana Foundation conduct clinics around the country, screening and counseling people for free.

The free screening which is an Okyeame Kwame initiative and powered by One Mic Entertainment is carried by Radio Gold, Live FM, GhanaWeb.com, Ghanagist.com, Peacefmonline.com and Nydjlive.com.

This year’s World Hepatitis Day is supported by GhanaWeb.com, Japan Motors, DDP, Vitamilk and CDH Financial Holdings, 2000 people are expected to be screened for free.

The gesture by GhanaWeb.com falls in line with its corporate social responsibility.
