Oheneba Sammy hits the waves again

Prophet Oheneba Sammy Jnr, better known as the Great Oheneba has introduced a huge dose of reggae into gospel music, a novelty that seems to be catching on in and out of the church room.

The 30-year-old Swe-dru-born who knows how to marry percussions with the rhythm guitar thinks that praise and worship songs are best done in high-tempo, with a booming bass overtone and a steady reggae flow.

In his famous eleven-track debut are four danceable reggae hits titled: Beware of Satan, Wo Tumi So, Jesus Te Me and Sie Sie Me.

The versatile debutant is very adventurous and does one unique thing – combining gospel melodies with highlife and calling it ‘goslife,’ probably the beginning of a new genre of music. Check it all out in Makyerew Me Din.

The prophet is no stranger to the jama-beat and ‘Yesu Aye Bi’ (God has played his part) talks for itself. Yet still, the man of God who worships at Original Church of Christ, Community 4, Tema, has something for agbadza lovers called ‘Obehyira wo’ (He’ll bless you).

The title-track is ‘Jordan Metwa’ (I’ll cross the Jordan) is a clear masterpiece. He uses pipes and flutes to great effect. Looks like the prophet has indeed arrived.

Great Oheneba says he takes inspiration from the likes of Bishop Michael Osei Bonsu (of blessed memory), Christiana Love and Ohema Mercy.
