Ofori Amponsah Feeds Street Kids

The hiplife star is responding to treatment after her traumatic ordeal last week and vows that her will is unbroken.

October 2nd will be exactly one year since contemporary music diva Mzbel?s eventful and enduring career was marred by a brutal attack in KNUST that left her emotionally scarred and battered for a long time. Two weeks to the anniversary the nation woke up to another freak ?accident?. This time her house is attacked by armed robbers and she is supposedly raped.

She had just returned from a UN sponsored concert in Liberia with a few dollars for the many mouths she feeds, one of whom made out the robbers after they broke down the front door.

They locked everybody into one room, and proceeded to wake Mzbel and asked for ?the $10,000?. There wasn?t any such sum so she handed over $900, 500 pounds and 800,000 cedis. The robbers took everything else in the house, including DVD players, her laptop computer, jewelry and clothes.

One of the robbers almost emptied a bottle of perfume in his shirt, and then they asked for ?the $10,000? again. Obviously it didn?t look like that kind of money was in the house so they were beaten instead. Then there was an attempt to rape Mzbel and another girl living with her.

Their screams were loud enough to make the robbers bolt, and one girl had her hip gun-butted badly. These robbers were actually bold enough to remove their masks and even hazard a rude conversation. Everybody in the house was supposed to have been killed they said, and Mzbel?s stepbrother (according to the robbers) gave information for the heist.

When news of her ordeal at KNUST broke last year, the media reports were insensitive and inaccurate and there seemed to be an attempt to assassinate her character. Last week wasn?t any different. Roger Kumi is in charge of operations at Goodies Music Production, Mzbel?s management company. He stated for the record that their artiste wasn?t raped as it?s being suggested by sections of the media. According to him, Mzbel is well and responding to treatment.

?She is quite traumatized by the incident and it would be appropriated if the media showed some sensitivity. One newspaper reported that she had been moved to hotel in North Kaneshie. She is nowhere near that place. When the police came to her house after the robbery was reported, journalists accompanied them but we thought they were part of the investigation team until Mzbel recognized one of the reporters from Graphic Showbiz.

We tried to make them understand that the story will have to be delivered properly. All they could think of was the commercial viability of a Mzbel story and true to their word the story came out with factual inaccuracies and a lot of exaggeration.?

Everyone is hoping the police investigation leads to the culprits and questions have been raised about her going through a similar ordeal just about this time last year. Be it coincidence or a case of opportunity theft, Mzbel?s managers say it important that media reports on people dealing with trauma are dealt with professionally and with some level of sensitivity to the victims involved.

Mzbel (real name: Nana Akua Amoah) is in a safe place and recuperating for now, away from the media and preying eyes. She will soon be moved to an unspecified location in the UK in a few weeks. Her managers have arranged private security for her and the police will be stretching their night patrols to her neighborhood. How nice.
