Obrafour In Trouble

Prolific hiplife artiste Obrafour “Ghana Rap Sofuo” (real name Michael Elliot Kwabena Okyere Darko) is in trouble over a deal he allegedly had with an American based Ghanaian Business woman.

According to a publication by “Flex” Newspaper, Obrafour traveled to the United States where he met the said lady and struck a deal with him to record his current album “Asem Beba Dabi” for her at a cost they both agreed on.

The lady who reportedly gave Obrafour an amount of U.S. Dollars 11,000 to produce the album, claiming she met Obrafour who told her about his intention to come back to Ghana to record an album after a long break. The agreement was that he would pay her back with the money accrued from the initial sales after the album is released on the market.

She claims Obrafour wants to take her for a ride because she didn’t hear from the rapper again until she heard that Obrafour had released a new album. The story continues that, the woman feels cheated and duped and threatened to go to every extent to get her money back. She insists that the “Pae Mu Ka” rapper is indebted to her.

Peacefmonline.com followed up the story and spoke to Obrafour in an exclusive interview. When he was asked if he knew any woman in America and if he had any deal like that, Obrafour laughed loudly in shock and asked “So where is the agreement contract we signed, has she brought it?” He asked.

He wondered where this story is coming from and said “Anyway it is all good. It is all part of things that happen to you when you are a star. Things like this come with the kind of work we do”. Obrafour vehemently denied knowledge of the said lady or any deal of that sort. “I don’t owe anybody; I have not taken anybody’s pesewa. Since I recorded my first album “Pae mu ka” I have never taken money from anyone, not even one cedis to record any of my albums.

The “Asem Sebe” hit maker also dared his accusers to take him to court if they have any evidence to support their claim. “If there is really an issue likes this, the court room is available so the lady should take me to court if she believes she has a case”, he emphasized.

Asked about what he is going to do about the allegation leveled against him, Obrafour said, “Well I don’t have anything to say because I’m surprised. I don’t know if someone just wants to write or say something about me to tarnish my image. It is never true and God almighty in heaven is my witness. I think people who do things like this know that I’m a God fearing person and so I am not going to do anything about it but I leave everything to God, for Him to deal with the person for me. Vengeance is of God not for man. So if it is true God is alive.”

He also denied going to America before recording his album: “I hear the lady is saying I went to America before I recorded my album but I didn’t go anywhere I was in Ghana before and all through my recording. I went to America only after I had finished recording my album and even released it. So I don’t know anything of that sort” he explained.

In a related development, Peacefmonline.com investigation reveal that the said lady in question whose name was mentioned as Madam Isha Modi who is currently in the States is preparing to come to Ghana to take legal action against the rapper for defrauding her and possibly hold a press conference on the issue.

Ms Modi claims she has the entire documents (receipts and contract) to prove that Obrafour took the said amount from her to produce an album. Peacefmonline.com also gathered that Isha’s uncle is already in Ghana to show some of the documents to media men to substantiate his niece’s claim. Meanwhile as at the time of filing this report Obrafour’s management and his legal advisers were also preparing for a counter legal action against the said lady.

Obrafour’s “Asem Beba Debi” which is the bone of contention was produced on Obrafour’s Execution Entertainment label and executively produced by Big Ben Production.

The album has a number of hit tracks including the controversial “Kasiebo” song featuring Guru which took a swipe at rap doctor Okyeame Kwame and Obour, “Hiplife” featuring Sarkodie, “Ghetto Love” featuring Stonebowy among others. The same album also won him an award for the “Best collaboration” at this year’s prestigious Ghana Music Awards.
