Make use of traditional instruments and cultural dance – SP Sarpong

Police officer and gospel singer SP Kofi Sarpong, has called on Ghanaians especially fellow musicians to embrace the use of traditional instrument and cultural dance in producing songs and music videos.

Speaking to Odeibea Hessey, host of ATV’s ‘Anopa Bosuo’ show on why he titled his trending song ‘African Borborbo’ from his recent album 'Agyenkwa', the Media Excel artist told ATV that Christians should not shy away or see the use of our traditional instrument and dance as evil or the act of idol worshiping.

He said we should appreciate God for making these instruments available to us hence musicians should use them in glorifying his holy name.

“If you read the book of Psalm from the holy books (Bible), it is stated we should use these instruments in praising the Lord our God. Africans are shying away from it and the whites are rather taking them away from us.

If you travel to the Europe now the whites are making our local/traditional instruments and are making good use of them. ‘Borborbo’ is a dance from the Volta region of Ghana and we must sell our culture, it should be dance anywhere, even in the church” he noted.

SP Sarpong expressed how he's grateful to God for the music talent that he has given to him, that he said, has really transformed his life.

He encouraged the youth who are having challenges in their lives to keep up the faith and look up to God.

He said God works in diverse ways and his time is always the best for us so we should always look up to him.

He also acknowledged Joyce Blessing for writing and composing one of his songs on his recent album.
