MUSIGA honours musicians

The President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Mrs. Diana Hopeson has called on all Musicians in the country to remain neutral in the area of politics.

According to her, Musicians have the right to join any political party they prefer but since they are role models and their supporters are not from the same political party, it is prudent that they do not show their party affiliation.

The MUSIGA president said this at an awards ceremony to honour distinguished musicians from the Central Region who have contributed immensely to the music industry in the country.

The event took place at the forecourt of the Cape Coast Castle and was attended by the general public, musicians, traditional rulers and lovers of music.

She disclosed that MUSIGA is going to organize a festival starting from the Western Region, where musical instruments and works from the ten regions in Ghana would be on display.

Mrs. Hopeson also donated a computer and its accessories to the Union. She praised the Central Regional Minister for his contribution towards the music industry, “I would like to thank the Regional Minister, Hon. Nana Ato Arthur for giving the Union an Office,” she said.

MUSIGA in collaboration with Premier Productions is also going to embark on musical peace concerts towards the elections in all the regional capitals and other district capitals in the country.

The chairman of the Central Regional branch of MUSIGA, Mr J.V.Owusu bemoaned the attitude of companies and super markets that were served with letters for support but refused totally to give a penny. He called on companies and Super markets to support the Union next time around.

Distinguished musicians who were awarded included; C.K.Mann, Paapa Yankson, A.B.Crentsil, Randy Nunoo, Ebo Taylor, Nat Brew, Isaiah Ampong, Kwaw Kese and Slim Buster.

There were performances from A.B.Crentsil, C.K.Mann, Alex Ankrah, King Sapi, Mary Danso, Might I am, Jamrra and Dara and St Cecilia Choir from Abura.
