Unemployed Convicted For Stealing Fowls, Ducks

Accra (GAR), July 11, - An Accra Circuit Tribunal yesterday sentenced Ashie Neequaye, a 30-year-old unemployed, to three months' imprisonment in hard labour for stealing five live fowls and two Neequaye who pleaded guilty to stealing the birds from police rented quarters at Sukura, a suburb of Accra, asked for leniency, saying he stole because of financial problems. Mr Charles Quist, who chaired the three-member panel, did not accept Neequaye's explanation. Police Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah told the tribunal that on June six, this year, Neequaye, who lives in the neighbourhood of the rented quarters, took advantage of the absence of policemen on n The prosecution said Neequaye was however arrested on suspicion by policemen on duty at Agbogbloshie area at 5.30.a.m. the following day. When he was searched, the stolen birds were found in a travelling bag he was carrying, the prosecution told the tribunal.
