Quavo recently opened up about the death of fellow Migos member Takeoff and how it affected his relationship with Offset.
Quavo, who’s gearing up to release his QRÖMELIFE album, touched on the topic during an interview with Complex. The 35-year-old revealed that Takeoff’s death “eased” the friction between him and Offset, 34.
“It threw out all the things that I was upset about or that we had friction about,” Quavo said, though he highlighted that he was speaking for himself only. “It was enough for me to say, alright, cool. Whatever you’re going through, I’ll go through with you.”
Quavo then linked Takeoff’s death to the QRÖMELIFE album cover, as he said the name “chrome” refers to the toughness of losing his “brother.”
“Me losing my brother, it can’t get no tougher than that,” Quavo, whose real name is Quavious Keyate Marshall, disclosed.
Migos, the Georgia rap group originally made up of Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff, was formed in 2008. Quavo’s nephew was Takeoff, and the pair even released a joint album before the latter’s shooting death.
During an October 2023 interview with Hot 97, Offset revealed Migos had disbanded, and it did not stem from personal issues between him and Quavo, but rather Takeoff’s death.
The pair, however, later put their personal issues aside, as Offset revealed in 2025 that he and Quavo were communicating “every other week.”
The pair have also resumed collaborating, with Offset landing a feature on a Qrömelife track titled Away.
Takeoff was just 28 years old when he was tragically shot and killed outside a bowling alley in downtown Houston on November 1, 2022. He was at a private gathering with Quavo when a confrontation occurred, but Quavo himself was unharmed in the incident.
Following Takeoff’s death, Quavo expressed his grief and the deep impact of losing his nephew.
“I miss him a lot, and I love him,” Quavo said in a 2023 interview with Jamie Crawford-Walker that he shared on his YouTube channel. “He know I love him. That’s what we always know. So when you see me and you see me smiling or something like that, you don’t gotta never think I forgot about him or I’ll forget about him. I think about him all the time. Sometimes I cry myself to sleep. And that’s it. I just know he’s here. If I can’t feel him, I just know he’s around.”
