"Woman33, arrested for harming stepson", reports the Graphic in a front page headline

The Graphic reports of 33 -year- old woman, Comfort Amartey, has been arrested by the LA Police in Accra, for allegedly forcing the right hand of her 10-year-old stepson into hot sand resulting in severe burns. The paper says, Grace Odotei, a friend of Comfort has also been arrested for abetment of crime for allegedly holding the boy while the step mother visited the babaric treatment on him. The Graphic says the father of the boy, David Annang Mensah, 41, who was present but failed to go to the aid of the son is also helping the police in their investigations. The paper, quoted the Kpeshie Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. S.K. Appiah as saying on November 11, that a woman who lives in the same area as Anang, informed him that his son, Ransford Anyetei Mensah, a 10-year-old primary six pupil, came to call her son to school. The Chief Superintendent said the woman claimed that immediately the two boys left for school, , she detected that her 10,000 cedis was missing and suspected Anyetei was the culprit. Ayeteiwas said to have denied the theft but the stepmother claimed she searched and found 2,000 cedis in his bag. The boy was therefore subjected to the ordeal, the Graphic reported the police as saying.
