How Famous Is Phamous People?

He’s more than a talent, he’s a phenomenon, he feels lucky to be able to communicate to the average famous person world through his camera.

This is a man who was inspired by his own dad, Charles Allen Gyimah of Video City Fame and his brother, George and its no other person than our own Ghanaian born, Gerald Gyimah a.k.a Ogee.

His first shot at his profession was graphics and started doing inlays and posters for Citirock, an audio-visual duplicating company.

The first question I posed to Ogee was who is Gerald Gyimah and he answered by saying "A Simple person with a hip character". Gerald popularly known as Ogee in the Ghanaian music circles emphasized that you always have to use your brains when it comes to directing of video clips.

His hobbies are taking of pictures. At the time Ogee fell deeply in
love with graphics, there was no professional institution so he had to
take short courses in IT (majoring in Graphics).

He decided later to customize his own education, which was sitting behind his PC. He values his brain so much and that the greatest treasure one can have is the
brain.

Ghana Music.com: What do you do?
Ogee: Am a handyman. I do everything that that has to do with multimedia – lighting, cameraman, floor, edit and directing. However, the media has pinned him as a video director.

Ghana Music.com: Is your work stressful?
Ogee: For someone who has learnt, it's fun.

By now, admirers of Ogee would be wondering the history behind Phamous People. Phamous People was founded after most of the people Ogee had worked with were famous people or celebrities. He chose to spell his famous 'Phamous' in order? to make it sound more hip.

Ghana Music.com: How different is Phamous People from other music video houses?
Ogee: “Simplicity is our hallmark. We are more personal with the artistes. We even go to them”.

Ghana Music.com: What goes into directing?
Ogee: That is when the cordial relationship with your client comes in.

His works outside has landed him deals with artistes like 20 mg, Genevieve Nnaji, Eben and Family (Best Revelation for KORA Awards - Gabon). His achievements are seven awards with Ghana Music Awards, Our Music Awards, Ghana Gospel Music Awards and Rev. Cephas award and hopes to reach the international market soon.

Ogee’s satisfactory achievement is when MTV recognized his works as a key professional in the Ghanaian music industry. In addition, gave him deals in South Africa, Gabon and Nigeria.

His most challenging project has been shooting ‘Gonja Barracks’ of Buk Bak. You should get a feel of this video and you will know what I am talking about. This is extremely awesome.

He’s made commercials for companies and made enduring, mutually supportive relationships with many of the artistes he’s come to know and worked with George Darko, Genevieve, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Esther Amoako, Pastor Joe Beechman, Mad Fish, Kwaadee (Kwaade's video won him the Best Video Director at the just ended Ghana Music Awards) and Obour.

Ghana Music.com: Will you be leaving the video scene for other things?
Ogee: Yeah, I will team up with those who have the magic to come out and be doing more commercial stuff.? For now I want to create my own effects.

Ogee’s successful career, which is directing music videos and commercials, will be taking another turn as he has plans of entering the film industry.

Ogee thinks our film industry is a confused one not to disrespect anyone. “Actors and producers say they do not have money. There are banks out there for them to take loans.

Other problems are the rush to come out with films, storyline is poor, grammar is poor and post production is bad”, he added. He is the 'Messiah' to our film industry as he promises to produce quality films.

I have been yearning to ask how he managed to shoot Obour underwater in his 'Menwu Biom' clip. I think, this is my time.

Ghana Music.Com: How did you that?
Ogee: I sacrificed one mini DV camera, which costs about $1200 in water which had water lights and were connected to monitors in order to take everything that goes on underworld. For me, the results are more important.

"Thanks to the Lord Almighty (I believe in God a lot), my wife (Felicia) who believes in me when no one does, the great Allen Gyimah family, every one of you out there and my church pastor".
