Get Familiar: ‘Happy Ending’ with the soulful Katou

Newcomer, Katou is a multi-talented young lady not only exploring her singing abilities but acting and modeling as well. Her music style is primarily one of Neo-Soul in which she focuses on the contemporary styles of t soul, R&B, Zouk and Afro-pop.

Katou’s music exemplifies her personal take on life, reflecting on her ideologies from African influences to the birth of her child and the complexities of love. Her songs are purely organic as found in her debut single ‘Happy Ending’. Born Katou Aisha Addaquay, her love for music started as early as age 9, when she joined her school choir, inspiring and touching lives with her raw talent. In 2003, she did her first-ever recording only to take an 8- year hiatus before returning to her passion and dream of a professional career in music. But the long wait is over as her first 2 singles are already making waves.

Even before she got back into the studios, Katou was still dwelling the world of arts. She pursued a modeling career and had relative success, walking the runway at the prestigious This Week Fashion Show in Nigeria among others. She also did radio commercials for Say Cheers and Coca Cola, and landed a role in Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ongoing movie series, Adams’ Apples.

Katou’s diverse educational background across Africa has also influenced her craft as she picked up on various cultures throughout her life. She had her high school education at Lycee Blaise Pascal High School in Cote D’ivoire, and later moved to University Of Jos, Plateau State in Nigeria where she studied Drama and French.

The singer who grew up on the soulful songs of musicians such as Aretha Franklin, Erykah Badu, Anita Baker and Sade, brings these influences to bear on her music. Katou has already worked with the likes of DJ Julz and Sizzle Pro, and she believes the best is yet to come.
