Stop creating artificial barriers - Amoako Nuama

Kumasi (Ashanti Region), 13 Jan. '99 - Dr Christina Amoako-Nuama, Minister of Lands and Forestry, has asked departments, organisations and agencies under her ministry to stop creating artificial barriers and work towards the building of closer relationship to enable them to solve problems facing them. She, therefore, urged them to pursue closer inter-agency collaboration and co-ordination to ensure sustainable use of their resources to enable the ministry to attain its set objectives. Addressing heads of department, organisations and agencies at a meeting in Kumasi as part of her familiarisation visit to the departments, Dr Amoako-Nuama asked them to initiate a number of actions aimed at eliminating many of the disputes associated with the land sub-sector. She said, with the passage of the Timber Resources Management Act and Legislative Instrument (1649) initiated by her predecessor, she was hopeful that the problems in the forestry sector would be reduced if not removed entirely. Dr Amoako-Nuama later called on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware the Second, at Manhyia. The Asantehene expressed his appreciation to the minister for the call and reminded her that she has assumed a very big responsibility at the Ministry of Lands and Forestry since it is a problematic area. He pledged his support and that of all chiefs in Ashanti for her, adding that his doors are always open to her whenever she needs any form of assistance.
