Abdul ‘Rashid Mettal’ Khaled on The Late Nite Celebrity Show on Monday told Giovani Caleb he almost gave up on his music career after twelve years of trying.

The Z Town artist revealed;

“I almost gave up because I was underground for twelve years. I followed Amandzeba, Amakye Dede and watched their live performances just to perfect my act. One day I woke up, told my producer friend to play me a beat, I went down to the studio, did the song, took the song home and released it on the same day.”

“I was invited to this birthday party the same day, I gave it to the DJ and told him that was my new song and I wanted him to test it, he took it played it and a week later, I started getting calls from friends that record was being played at all these different places, I didn’t believe it because any time I released a song I got same type of calls but the calls didn’t stop and it finally dawned on me that the song was huge.”

Touching on his friendship with controversial emperor of the SM Empire, Rashid Mettal said;

“Shatta and I have been friends from way back, from his Bandana days but it got to a point he wasn’t picking calls again and one day he called me and said I should swing by the studio and we did two songs.”

Reacting to criticisms that he wasn’t Dancehall enough, Mettal said;

“To those who say I’m not a real Dancehall artist, I want to know how far those claiming they do real Dancehall are in their careers. We are not in Jamaica and no matter how hard you try you can’t do it better than the Jamaicans.”

“Stonebwoy is a typical Dancehall artists but he was rated as Afro Pop for BET and he won. Even Shatta Wale who was doing typical Dancehall broke through with Dancehall King which was Afro POP.”

Rashid Mettal is billed to headline a mid-week Reggae Dancehall Beach Concert organized by YFM at the Princess One Love Bay, La Pleasure Beach in Accra Today, Wednesday, August 5, 2015.
