Due to some of the problems that Ghanaian walkers face at international competitions, the Visco Walking Club has designed a training programmed that will put its members in shape before the world walking cup on May 13th and 14th 2006 in Spain.
In an interview with Vincent Asumang, he indicated that the Ghanaian walking team spent about two weeks in the processing of their documents at the Italian Embassy in the year 2002 when they were due to travel for the world cup in Turin and this affected their performance. In view of this, plans are far advanced to check the recurrence of this problem with earlier preparation as the antedot. He also indicated that Ghanaian walkers have to qualify with a time of 1hr 35mins for the 20k walk which has to be done under an IAAF organized competition.
At the moment some of the walkers who are preparing for the World Cup include Vincent Asumang of the Ghana Fire Service, Ahmed Tijani Sani of the Ghana Armed Forces (Navy), Stanley Brimah, Benjamin Annan, Francis Adarkwa, Robert Nelson Annim, Ekow Rambo and Sarah Nyarkoh, all from Cape Coast. Those from Accra are Agyanim Boateng, Michael Osei Boateng Jacqueline Aku Bludo of the Ghana Police Service. The team from Takoradi is made up of Richard Arthur, Muhammed Hadi,Stephen Boateng,Isaac Obeng,Joseph Baidoo and Sanni Idana.
