Apam Secondary School wins Central Region Zone 4 Athletic competition

Apam (C/R), Feb. 20, GNA - Apam Secondary School won both boys and girls trophies in this year's Central Region Schools and Colleges Sports Association Zone Four annual Inter-School Track and field Meet held at Apam.

The school scored 101.6 points and 140 points in the boys and girls divisions, respectively and 241.1 points to collect the overall championship trophy.

Potsin T.I Ahmadiyya Secondary School placed second with 168 points, scoring 83 and 85 points, respectively in the boys and girls divisions.

Winneba Secondary School came third with 145 points, securing 98 points and 47 points in the boys and girls divisions.

Ajumako Bisease Secondary Commercial School took the fourth position with 96.6 points, scoring 28.6 and 68 points in the boys and girls divisions.

Mando Secondary School placed 5th with 86.9 points, followed by Senya Secondary School with 54 points, Gomoa Secondary Technical School at Dawurampong placed seventh with 51.6 points.

Enyan Denkyira Secondary Technical School and Ekumfi T.I. Ahmadiyya secondary School at Essarkyir took the 8th and 9th positions with 36 and 33.6 points, respectively with Winneba School of Business and Andam Secondary technical School at Kasoa, both private institutions, scoring 15 and 14 points to place tenth and eleventh respectively. A 200 meters boy's record of 22.50 seconds set by Mutala Mohammed of Apam Secondary School in 2003 was broken by a fellow schoolmate Stephen Gyamfi, who ran the race in 22.35 seconds.

Addressing the closing session, Mr J.E.S. Baffoe, Assistant Director of Education at the Gomoa District Directorate of Education, urged the athletes to let the training and the rules of sports help them in building their character to become men and women of integrity in the society.

He advised them to combine sports with academic work so that they could find life bearable at the time they could no longer perform in sports.

Mr Alex Amponfi-Duku, chairman of the zonal association and Headmaster of Enyan Denkyira Secondary Technical School, commended the athletes for high performance and urged them to train hard to keep the torch of the zone burning in the super-zonal competition to be held in Cape Coast. 20 Feb. 05
