Compete fairly - Ghana’s High Commissioner to Australia to Athletes

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Australia, Edwin Nii Adjei, has advised Ghanaian athletes that will participate in the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be disciplined and compete fairly.

He said “if you win, you must win fairly; if you lose, you lose gallantly and if there is any decision made which is not in your favour, use the appropriate channel to address it.”

The High Commissioner gave the advice when he paid a working visit to Ghana’s contingent at its training camp in Queensland, Australia.

He urged them to use the opportunity to market the Ghana brand and comport themselves accordingly.

“The games, as we all know, present an opportunity for culture brand, it is a time most countries sell their culture so I want you to use the games to project the nation,” he stated.

He reiterated his support for members of the Team Ghana.

Mr Edwin Nii Adjei urged the athletes to take a cue from their predecessors and write their names in the history of Ghana sports.

Team Ghana, led by the Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Robert Sarfo Mensah, explained that prior to the Team’s arrival in Australia, a reconnaissance team from the International Games Committee (IGC) paid a visit to Australia, adding that there has not been cause for concern since that time.

The High Commissioner was accompanied by Hakeem Balogun and other Ghanaian residents in Australia led by President of the Ghanaian Community in Queensland, Nicholas Botchway.

The 2018 Gold Coast Games would begin on April 4 and end April 15.
