Third TRAFIECALL meet comes off in Accra

Accra, Aug 29, GNA - The third in the series of athletics competitions organised by the CALL Track and Field Foundation dubbed "The 3rd TRAFIECALL Meet" aimed at keeping athletes in the Greater Accra Region busy will come off at the Accra Sport Stadium on first and Second September.

According to the organisers of the Meet, which is themed 'rising talent' it will be used to unearth talents in the region who when given the necessary exposure and training would rise to the very best in their events.

The organisers said even though the competition started not so long ago the fruits of their efforts have started showing with Gad Boakye, a product of their development programme, reaching the 100 and 200 meters finals of the African Junior Championship held in Cameroon earlier this year.

The event would also be used as a warm up for young athletes who will be representing the region in the upcoming School Sport Festival latter in the year, the organisers said. The organisers said the Meet has seen some marked improvement in terms of patronage because many budding talents who otherwise would not have the opportunity to showcase their talents were given the chance to do so.

CALL Track and Field Foundation was started by athletes in Accra to give their compatriots in the region the chance to exhibit the best of their athletics ability.

The event, to be opened to all aspiring athletes from Keep Fit Clubs in the region would be opened by Honourable Sheik I C Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister.

Some of the events to be competed in are 100, 200, 400, 800, 1500 and 3000 metres. There would also be the 4 by 100 and 4 by 400 metres relays, a 5 Kilometres race walk as well as 400 and 800 metres wheel chair races.

Long jump, high jump, discus, triple jump, Javelin and shot put would be the field events.

Clubs expected to participate are CALL Track and Field Foundation, Ghost Town Keep-Fit Club, Anointed Keep-Fit Club, Azingoga Keep-Fit Club, Sukura Keep-Fit Club, Duncans Keep-Fit Club, El-Wak Keep-Fit Club and St. John's Keep-Fit Club.

Others are Osu Ebenezer Keep-Fit Club, Achimota Keep-Fit Club, Dawhenya Keep-Fit Club, Pokuase Keep-Fit Club, Amassaman Keep-Fit Club, Lucky Rainbow Keep-Fit Club, Dome Keep-Fit Club, Visco Race Walk Club, Depot Keep-Fit Club, Licence Office Keep-Fit Club and Panthers Keep-Fit Club.

The rest are Dansoman Keep-Fit Club, Vitaco Keep-Fit Club, Junction Keep-Fit Club, Association for the disabled and the Ghana Educational Service (GES) Greater Accra Senior Secondary School team.
