St Augustine's emerge C/R 'zone three' winners

Cape Coast, Mar. 13 GNA - St. Augustine's College bagged 175 points to lift the 'zone three' championship trophy of the Central Region annual Inter Schools and Colleges athletic competition held at Cape Coast on Friday.

Mfantsipim Secondary School took the second position with 164 and a half points, Asuansi Technical Institute came third with 78 points and Saltpond Methodist High School placed fourth with 46 points.

In the girls division, Holy Child School placed first with 151 points followed by Wesley Girls High School with 147 points, Mankessim Secondary Technical School was third with 71 points while Abakrampa Secondary School came fourth with 40 and half points.

Two records, one each in the boys' and girls' divisions were broken when Ernest Arhin Sam of Asuansi Technical Institute broke the high jump record with a leap of 1.94 metres to erase the old record of 1.90 metres set in 1965 while Benedicta Edusah of Wesley Girls, shattered the 800 metres record in two minutes, 34 seconds against the previous record of two minutes, 34.44 seconds.

Cyril Ferguson of St Augustine's College who was declared the best male athlete for winning the 100 metres, 110 metre hurdles, and 200 metre races while Efua Sackey of Wesley Girls was declared the best female athlete for also winning the 100 metres, 200 metres and the long jump.
