Relay Team Win Ghana's Third Gold

Bambous, Mauritius - Ghana's women's 4x100m edged perennial power Nigeria at the finish line to win her third gold at the Africa Championhips at the Germain Commarmond Stadium here on Friday

Similarly the Nigerian men's team pipped South Africa at the finish. Ghana came in third.

Ghana?s medal tally is currently three golds and two bronze. World Indoor and Commonwealth champion, Ignatius Gaisah, won the country?s first gold medal in the men?s long jump event, jumping a new national record of 8.51m last Wednesday. Vida Anim followed up with a win in the 100m sprints

The wins gives Anim and Gaisah the chance to represent Africa at the World Cup to be staged in Athens in September and the World Athletics Championships in Osaka, Japan, next year.

The talk of the day is the situation on the medal table where five countries, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and Egypt are tied on three gold medals each. This is Ghana's best showing at an Africa Championhip in a long time.
