Nkansah wins 60 and 100m in Finland

TAMPERE, Finland - Eric Nkansah of Ghana took the men's 60 metres (6.68 seconds) and the 100 (10.45) yesterday in the Star Games indoor athletics meet. He was ahead of Jamaica's Lindel Frater (6.72 and 10.47) in both races. Robert Newton of Britain won the men's 60 hurdles in 7.70.

Heptathlon world champion, Carolina Kluft, bounced back after a dismal outing in Stockholm earlier this week to win the women's long jump at 6.48 metres

The Swede, named last year's top female European track athlete after winning heptathlon titles in both the world outdoor and indoor championships, prevailed despite fouling on four of her six attempts.

Kluft's winning result was 20 centimetres off her personal best set in last year's world indoors in Birmingham, England. Outdoors, her best is 6.86.

In Stockholm two days earlier, Kluft finished a disappointing fourth at 6.41 in her first indoor meet of the season. Niurka Montalvo of Spain finished second in Tampere at 6.23.

In the women's 60 hurdles, Susanna Kallur of Sweden won in 8.03 with Delloreen Ennis-London of Jamaica second in 8.06. In the triple jump, Trecia Smith was fourth with a leap of 14.03 metres.
