New 1,500m record at MTTC athletics

Mampong, Feb 19, GNA - Emmanuel Tawiah of House Four, clocked four minutes, 42 seconds to set a new record in the 1,500 metres race at the inter-house athletics competition of the Mampong Teachers Technical College (MTTC) at the weekend.

He broke the old record of four minutes 48 seconds set by Prince Tawiah of House Two in 1995.

House Two took the overall first position with 133 points followed by House Four with 106 points while House Three took the third position with 75 points and House One placing fourth with 71 points.

Mr Leonard Yao Amuzu, Principal of the College in his closing remarks said the competition was a prelude to the National Teacher Training Colleges games to be held in Ho later this year.

He urged the sportsmen and organisers to ensure that they purge sporting activities of all violence, hooliganism and immoral practices normally witnessed at sporting games and competitions.

This, he noted, would enable sports to play its role of promoting friendliness and good health among especially the youth. Mr Amuzu used the opportunity to appeal to the Sekyere West District Assembly to support the college with financial and logistic support to enable it prepare adequately towards the games.
