Mfantsipim Senior High School emerge champions

Cape Coast, Feb. 21, GNA - Four records were broken and two others equalled in the annual Central Regional Zone Three Inter-Schools Athletics Competition held at the Schools and Colleges Park at Adisadel on Friday.

Gifty Afful of Holy Child School bettered her own record of 9.93 metres in the tipple jump record set in 2007 with a leapt of 10.46 metres. Emily Aidoo of Wesley Girls High School also broke the shot putt record with a throw of 10.19 metres against the previous record of 10.18 metres.

Linda Amponsah of Jukwa School shattered the 800 metres record in a time of 2 minutes 29 seconds against the previous record of 2 minutes 30 seconds while Gifty Afful led a quartet of Holy Child School to break the 4x400 metres race in a time of 4 minutes 14 seconds against the previous record of 4 minutes 20 seconds. Millicent Abaka also of Holy Child School equalled the 100 metres and 200 metres races record in 12.5 seconds and 26.0 seconds set in 2001 and 2008.

Mfantsipim Senior High School placed first with 137 points with St. Augustine's Colleges placing second with 124 points followed by Jukwa Senior High School at the third position with 106 points, Mankessim Secondary Technical School came fourth with 42 points while Efutu Secondary Technical School came fifth with 37 points. In the Girls division, Holy Child School came first with 157 points followed by Jukwa Senior High School with 137 points, Wesley Girls High School placed third with 120 and half points, Saltpond Methodist High School was fourth with 39 points while University Practice Senior High School came fifth with 26 points.
