Inusah Wins Individual Title,

PCORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Ayisha Inusah won individual honors at the NCAA D-I Independent Cross Country Championships on Saturday. Inusah paced a Utah Valley State squad that finished second overall. The UVSC men finished in third place.

Inusah, the Independent Runner of the Week twice this year, finished with a time of 18:18 over the 5k course to easily outdistance Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Yvonne Rodriguez and Leeann Jiminez. Rodriguez finished eight seconds behind Inusah.

"Ayisha [Inusah] ran a great race," said UVSC coach Jed Gibson. "Unfortunately we were unable to break up their grouping like I thought we could." Krista Young was UVSC's second runner in, finishing fourth overall, with a time of 18:41. The Wolverines had five runners in the top 11 places to finish with 30 points overall. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi finished with 25 points as its five runners finished in the top-9 places.

The UVSC men did not fair quite as well. With temperatures in the mid-80's and humidity "off the charts", the Wolverines' No.3 runner, Marcus Arbuckle succumbed to heat exhaustion and collapsed one mile from the finish line. The UVSC men finished in third with 60 points. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won with 31 points.

Texas-Pan American runner Westly Keating win individual honors finishing with a time of 25:12. Peter Holm was UVSC's top runner in fifth place with a time of 26:54. Fellow Wolverine Mark Lott was sixth at 27:22.
