Athletics in Ghana has been on a down trend since the turn of the century, contrary to what the likes of Ohene Karikari, Rex Brobbey and the other stalwarts did for the country in the late 1990s.

The former Chief Athletics Coach Mr. Albert Nukpezah has expressed his frustration to sportscrusader.com with regards to the way athletics is on a downward trend in Ghana.

He said “it saddens my heart that, the sport i love so much is on the decline, i will therefore plead with the Hon. Nii Lante Vanderpuye to organize a stakeholders meeting in order to address the recent shortcomings of the Association”.

The former 400 metre runner also emphasize the need for an inclusive system of governance to that various concerns would be raised to move the sports upwards.

Athletics in recent times has not won many medals for Ghana in both on the African continent and international tournament like the olympics and this is a very worrying trend,he added.
