GUSA organizes cross-country for universities

Cape Coast, Nov. 10, GNA - Prince K. Odoom of the University of
Cape Coast (UCC) run a fantastic race to win the 13th Inter-University
Cross-Country competition with a time of 39 minutes 10 seconds at the
UCC sports grounds on Saturday. The 12-kilometres race which was dominated by runners from the UCC was organised by the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) andattracted 30 participants each in the men and women's divisions from three
universities, the UCC, University of Ghana, (UG) and the University of
Education, Winneba (UEW). Sulemana Salifu also of the UCC took the second position in a time of
39 min.13 sec. while Mark Zangina of the University of Ghana placed third in
a time of 39min.50secs with Francis Nwolley and David Owusu both of the
UCC coming fourth and fifth in 39min.53secs, and 40min 51sec.
respectively. In the women's division, University of Education, Winneba came tops
with Charity Boahemaa placing first over the eight kilometre race with a time
of 33min 10.90 sec, followed by Juliana Yeboa, also of UEW in second
position with a time of 33 min 44. 83secs. Vivian Afua Dansowa of the UG came third in a time of 34 min 17secs,
Dora Naa Amerley, UEW, came fourth in 35min 54 secs with Matilda Ofori
Boateng, UCC placing fifth in 35 min 18secs. UCC emerged the overall champions of the competition with 47 points,
UG came second with 49 points and UEW placed third with 83 points. In the women's division, UEW emerged the overall champions with 40 points, UCC second with 60 points and UG third with 72 points. Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Omanhene of the Oguaa Traditional Area who was the Guest of Honour commended the participants for their sprtsmanship during the competition. Present at the ceremony were Reverend Professor Abokyi Ntreh, Dean of Students and Mr John Adu, technical director of GUSA.
