Dormaa-Ahenkro Wins Athletics Circuits

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) Aug. 3, GNA - Dormaa-Ahenkro Circuit of Dormaa District Directorate of Ghana Education Service (GES) emerged the over-all winners with 138 points in an Inter-Circuit Athletic competition at Dormaa-Ahenkro in Brong-Ahafo last Saturday. Wamanafo-Kyeremasu Circuit followed with 85 points, Baabianeha circuit, 64 points, while Amasu circuit took the fourth position with 63 points.
The fifth position went to Wamfie circuit with 52 points, followed by Nsuhia-Asikasu circuit with 45 points while the seventh and eighth positions went to Nsenia-Danyame and Nkrankwanta circuits with 28 and 23 points respectively.
Kojokwamikrom placed last with only two points. The competition was sponsored by a Ghanaian couple based in Malaysia, Mr. and Mrs Williams Samuel Kyeremeh, who donated medals and trophies estimated at more than five million cedis.
Mr. Kyeremeh expressed satisfaction with the level of sportsmanship and discipline exhibited by the participating schools. He also presented 140 medals worth 1.2 million cedis to the District Directorate of the GES to organize a similar competition next year for all the basic schools in the district.
Mr Kyeremeh said since not all students are academically good, the GES must organize periodic activities to help promote sports among the schools to unearth talents.
Mr. Alex Yaw Aboagye, Assistant Director of Education, thanked the couple for sponsoring the competition.
He congratulated the participants for their active involvement in the competition and called on individuals and organisations to emulate the couple.
The disciplined competed include 100 metres, 200 meters, 400 meters, 1,500 meters, high jump, long jump and javelin.
