It was a bad start for Ghana at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London after all three individual athletes failed to make it in their respective heats. Field athlete Nadia Eke failed to make it to the final of the women’s triple jump, falling short of her personal best of 13.93.

Emmanuel Dasor did not start in Heat 6 of the men’s 400m. Reports say he suffered a knee injury at training on Friday. Alex Amankwaah had a better performance on the day but his effort failed to secure him a semi-final place in the men’s 800m.

Racing in Heat 4, Amankwaah placed fourth – one place behind the straight qualifiers – in a time of 1:47:56s. Kenyan Emmanuel Korir won that heat in a time of 1:47:08s. The country would have to wait till Tuesday, when Janet Amponsah races in the women’s 200m heats. She will also be part of the women’s 4X100m relay team to race on next Saturday.
