Atsu Nyamadi breaks Ghana national record

Multi talented athlete Atsu Nyamadi has set a new national record in the decathlon after accumulating 6234 points at the prestigious Kansas Relays on 17thApril. The Neosho County College scholar placed 2nd overall behind Dan Simon of Milwaukee who had 6429 points.

The Ghanaian participated in ten events over a two day period.He cleared the bar at 3.15m which is a vast improvement over his previous performances and also clinched second place in the Shot put with a throw of 12.15m.

It will be recalled that Atsu set the old record, 5932pts at the 18th African Athletics Championship at the Charles de Gaulle stadium in Porto Novo last year when he made his debut appearance in the combined events.

He has since gone on to study at the Neosho County College on a government of Ghana sponsored scholarship and has already earned an all-American honour after his performance in the heptathlon during the Indoor season.

The former T. I. Ahmadiya student finished 6th with a score of 4597 to set a new School record in only his second time competing in the combined event earlier in the year.
