AAG: Nkansah wins silver in 100 metres

Algiers, July 19, GNA- The old war horse, the old soldier of Ghana' tracks, Eric Nkansah gave meaning to the old British adage that 'old soldier never dies' when he raced to a respectable silver medal in the finals of the men's 100 metres competition at the 5th July Stadium in Algiers.

Nkansah got out of the blocks at the gun and powered himself to be among the pacesetters and never looked back as he revved harder to the finishing line, ahead of Nigerian, Uchena Emedolu whose fierce challenge to deliver gold and silver to Nigeria failed to see the light of day. Meanwhile, Nigerian Olusoji Fasuba ensured he breasted the tape ahead of Nkansah to win the gold in a time of 10.18 seconds, ahead of Nkansah who clicked 10.35. Bronze medal winner, Emedolu finished in 10.37 seconds.

Ghana's other competitor in the race, youthful Harry Adu Mfum trailed the pack to the finishing line in the closely contested race, but celebrated with Nkansah.

Nkansah expressed gratitude to God for guiding him the silver medal and said he had many more years to contribute to Ghana's track and field.

He called for more support from the authorities, adding that with adequate support and better preparations, Ghana would challenge other great track and field countries on the continent.
