2008 Ghana Navy Inter-port Games opens

Sekondi, June 18, GNA - The Ghana Navy Inter-Ports Games opened on Monday at Sekondi after over five years break.

Teams from the Western and Eastern Naval Commands as well as the Naval Headquarters and Fleet are competing in athletics and football. Commodore Frank Daley, Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command who opened the Games said the essence of the games is to discover new talents for the Navy to feature in the Ghana Armed Forces and Security Services Games slated for August this year. He said the Games is also to create a forum for a "Stage to set a milestone for a healthy and sound body living for the officers and men" since many people are saddled with various diseases due to poor dieting and lack of exercises.

Commodore Daley urged the participants not to rest on their oars after the Games but to continue with their exercises. He reminded the participants to exhibit good sportsmanship in all activities with good morales, discipline, obedience and a spirit of competitiveness.

Commodore Daley said all participants should abide by the rules of the Games and to ensure that they have fond memories of the Games while urging the officials to officiate fairly to enable the best athletes to be picked for the Navy.
