15 year-old pupil wins gold medal at inter-regional sports festival

Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) March, GNA - Iddrisu Amoako, a 15 year-old final-year pupil of Nsesereso Methodist Junior high School in Dormaa Municipality, has won gold medal at the 2010 inter-Regional Basic School Sports Festival for Brong Ahafo Region in Wa. Master Amoako has therefore been offered full scholarship for his senior high school (SHS) education.

Dormaa Municipal Assembly offered the scholarship at this year's Independence parade at Dormaa in recognition of the student's singular performance and also to spur other pupils on for similar achievement. Master Amoako did the 800 metres flat race in 2:7.00 seconds to pick the gold medal.

The Municipal Directorate of Education presented the athlete with a certificate of merit from the Regional Basic Schools Sports Federation and GH¢100.00 cash.

Vincent Oppong Asamoah, Municipal Chief Executive, commended the gold medallist for the achievement, which he said was a source of joy for the region and Dormaa Municipality. In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Dormaa-Ahenkro, the athlete expressed the hope of becoming a national long-distance runner in future. Meanwhile the Headmistress of Dormaa SHS, Madam Margaret Pomaa Otchere, has indicated her school's readiness to admit the athlete next academic year and charged him to do well in the forthcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination. 12 March 11
