Nigeria coach Rohr in hot demand

The news of the seeming impasse between the Nigerian football authorities and head coach Gernot Rohr seems to be attracting interest in Africa.

A highly placed source has revealed that two major West African francophone countries have approached Rohr to take over their teams in the near future. One of them is Mali. Another country has federation elections soon and the leading candidate has promised to bring the German man to the country if he wins the election.

The sourced added: “Rohr is an experienced coach who has travelled wide in Africa. He knows the continent and he knows the people. People want such a coach to negotiate tough qualification matches in Africa”.

Rohr has been in charge of Nigeria since 2016 and had his 2-year contract extended in 2018, set to expire next month.

He went on to qualify Nigeria for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and reached the semi final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt last year, winning bronze.

There is an on-going issue around the contract terms that he is to be offered by Nigeria, and some analysts are of the opinion that he may leave, if the terms are not acceptable to him.

Meanwhile, attempts to contact Rohr or his representative on the reports were unsuccessful.
