The Minister for Home Affairs, Petrobas Katambi, said the move is part of the government’s broader strategy to equip law enforcement agencies with modern skills to tackle emerging security threats, particularly cybercrime.

Katambi made the remarks in Parliament on Monday, May 25, while moving the ministry’s budget estimates for the 2026/27 financial year.

He told lawmakers that by April 2026, at least 157 officers, inspectors, and police personnel had undergone specialised training in cybercrime investigations, forensic fingerprint analysis,s and examination of suspicious documents.

Katambi said the officers also received advanced training in criminal behavioural analysis, digital forensic investigations, disaster security management, counterterrorism, and scientific investigative techniques.

At the same time, the government said the Police Force will continue strengthening systems aimed at curbing cybercrime and misuse of social media platforms.

The measures include establishing zonal cybercrime investigation offices in Dodoma City and Zanzibar, installing systems to monitor cyberattacks, and strengthening a special unit responsible for combating misinformation and online incitement.

Katambi said the police will also continue providing public awareness education on the dangers of spreading false information online and collaborate with the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) to monitor and control high-risk online accounts.
